Chronic stress, sun exposure, lack of sleep, and a range of other health and lifestyle factors can lead to premature hair greying or hair loss. Here is an easy to make, homemade spray you can use to support your scalp health.
Tools
- Dropper bottle - for the oil
- Spray bottle - for the water
Ingredients
- Peppermint tea - may block DHT which is linked with premature hair loss. May increase circulation to scalp and balance oiliness.
- Green tea - rich in antioxidants which protect against cellular damage to hair follicles. Vitamin C may stimulate blood flow. May reduce dandruff.
- Dandelion tea - inflammation fighting which may help reduce hair loss due to inflammatory processes. Other active constituents may also stimulate faster hair growth.
- Mandarin essential oil - linked with increased melanin synthesis, reduced hair greying, and even restoration of colour. Also used in aromatherapy for uplifting the mood.
- Pumpkin seed oil - blocks DHT to minimise excess shedding
Method
Mix the teas together in water a little under boiling point. This will sit until cool, then add to the spray bottle and store in the fridge.
Mix 15 drops of Mandarin Essential Oil + 30ml pumpkin seed oil and store in the dropper bottle.
To Use
1. Dampen hair and scalp.
2. Spray the roots generously all over the head with the tea mixture.
3. Follow this by using the dropper bottle to deposit the oil across the scalp - focus on areas of greying and hair loss.
4. Massage the scalp using fingers. The scalp massage itself, other than promoting absorption of the ingredients, also stimulates blood flow, reduces tension and can improve scalp health.
5. Leave on for 30-60 mins then wash and condition as normal.
OPTIONAL - if you have particularly dry and damaged hair, you can add the pumpkin seed oil through the ends of the hair and leave on with the scalp spray for 30-60 mins.
Finish your hair routine by adding a little Winter Everywhere to the tips while still damp, as a leave-in conditioning styling cream.
Use this spray 3+ times per week for best results.
